The University of Cape Town offers Fintech: Disruption in Finance, which is an online short course convened by Allan Davids, who teaches econometrics, public economics and policy analysis at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Fintech course has 8 Modules that will give you an understanding of the technologies of disrupting finance, including blockchain, AI and big data, and the skills to apply them to your context. The course will give you skills to solve problems within emerging markets through the use of Fintech and how to strategize, fund and launch your start-up within the growing Fintech landscape.

The MultiChoice Moment – new sports betting & payment platform for South Africa

MultiChoice is in the process of launching a new sports betting and payment. The group has outlined its strategy of transforming its video entertainment-based platform into a more extensive technology platform encompassing new emerging ecosystems.

MultiChoice said it is partnering with KingMakers, a sports betting & gaming company, to launch an online betting service in South Africa by the end of 2023, which will be called SuperSportBet, said KingMakers CEO Kim Reid.

Along with SuperSportBet, MultiChoice aims to bridge the digital divide in Africa with its new online payment company called Moment. Moment is a joint venture between Multichoice, Rapyd, a global payment platform, General Catalyst, fintech venture capitalists, Entrée Capital, and Raba.

South African Department of Basic Education (DBE) introduces Robotics and Coding in 2023

After piloting Coding and Robotics in 18 schools nationwide in 2022, the DBE is still finalizing curricula for new subjects for promulgation into the Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS), which governs South Africa’s education system.

Coding and Robotics are the ‘next gen’ subjects being piloted for improving education in the 21st Century, which include, but are not limited to: Robotics, Coding, Machine-learning, Nanotechnology, 3D Printing, Genetics and Biotechnology. The DBE has gazetted 35 Occupational and Vocationally- orientated subjects over the past few years. DBE introduced Marine Sciences, a new FET-level subject among the occupational subjects.
