It is only a few months until the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup gets underway. India will be playing host to the best cricket nations of 2023. The ICC World Cup will take place from the 10th of October until the 26th of November 2023. The tournament will be taking place in the autumn season of India, for those that know Southern Asia, they will know that this is known as the perfect season. The sun will be out, and so will the Champions.

England will be walking into unfamiliar territory after winning it in their homestead in 2019.
They managed a defeat over New Zealand who had two prolific players that will always be remembered from this tournament. Kane Williamson was the player of the series, and
Mitchell Starc had the most wickets (27). This year they play in India, can New Zealand
get it done this time or will England be able to defend it in India’s backyard?

The Proteas

The Proteas’ roof has been estimated to be no further than the semi finals for most. The tournament has other favourites, these include the finalists, and the runners’ up of the 2019 World Cup in England and New Zealand. Besides being the home country, India are still seen as favourites alongside the most successful country in the World Cup with 5 titles in Australia. Many believe that if South Africa’s batting line up can show up in better form, they could stand a chance to go further. Some Protea fans believe that to better South Africa’s chances, they need at least 5 batting players that can score at least 50 points.

South Africa’s qualification could be guaranteed if they win their next couple of games, these are games that the Proteas are expected to win. The star players that they could rely on are Quintin
De Kock, David Miller, Aiden Markam, Rassie van der Dussen, and Kagiso Rabada who was part
of the ICC 2022 Men’s Test Team of The Year. The Proteas have a wide variety of talent
should they need it, in case of any injuries.

World Cup Expectations

The expectations set by most are not as high for the South African side. The Proteas will be facing a difficult journey coming into this World Cup, however, if they play as a team they can leave as the victorious underdogs. The pressure sits more on the shoulders of England and India. The countries that have already qualified for the World Cup are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Pakistan, and New Zealand. India gets automatic qualification as the hosts.

The tournament will consist of 10 teams in total, that means there are 10 berths in total, and 8 of them have already been taken. The 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers will take place in Zimbabwe, this will be from the 18th of June until the 9th of July 2023. A lot of details concerning the
World Cup are not released as of yet as it is still a few months away. We will provide
updates as the tournament closes in.
