Since the first consoles came out, gamers around the world would wait in anticipation each year for new games to hit the surface! And each year there tends to be a general improvement in the overall gaming experience of the games that are released. However that isn’t always the case, 2021 has been a big year for the gaming community.

Our top 10 list has been split into two parts, one being the top 5 worst games and the other being top 5 best games. Each of the games placed on our list had to have a minimum of 7 reviews from professionals or critics. We like to roll the bad news out first so the good news can soothe the pain, here’s our list of the best and worst games of 2021!

Top 5 Worst Games of 2021

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

There may have been worse games that were released in 2021 but the sheer fact that this game was released by Rockstar, makes the poor remaster of this classic game franchise all the more painful. Though the next gen console versions of the remaster were far better than the Switch version, the laughably buggy launch and performance issues were experienced through all platforms!

Somehow the remastered graphics have managed to make the game look in fact much worse than the original by taking away some of the game’s original charm. Nintendo life went on to say “This is a poor port, a shoddy, stuttery, low resolution mess full of bugs, glitches, audio problems and more besides.” about the Switch version of the remaster. You hate to see one of the world’s biggest game franchises put out content of such low quality. We can only hope it’s due to Rockstar investing more energy in Grand Theft Auto Six.

TAXI CHAOS

One of the biggest points of releasing a so called new game is to create an authentic gaming experience and new mechanics. With Taxi Chaos you are essentially paying for a counterfeit version of Crazy Taxi. Brining no new life to a dying arcade racing game, Taxi Chaos takes what actually made the original game so enjoyable away!

Though it may be a casual game and it’s not exactly the priciest game to purchase when buying a game, it is so unoriginal in fact that you might save the hassle and money by not buying it in the first place. The game has just missed the mark in improving some of the gameplay features to make it more enjoyable than its predecessor.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse – EarthBlood

Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is based on the World of Darkness tabletop RPG series. The stealth/action/RPG game and is based on a werewolf named Cahal, who is disgusted by pollution and seeks vengeance against a large oil company. A seemingly interesting concept that was plagued by unimaginative gameplay mechanics.

The game drew a lot of attention when it was unveiled at E3 a few years prior to it’s release. The game met players with a good impression but later critics saw the game as vastly repetitive, the story was rather distasteful and the gameplay only got worse as you consumed more of it.

Balan WonderWorld

If you haven’t heard of Balan WonderWorld, it’s become a bit of a meme at this point already! Balan WonderWold had actually originated from the creator of Sonic The HedeHog. Sure there’s a certain acquired taste for 3D platform games but this is one simply felt as though it was made to upset you!

Some critics even said the game played as though it was made a decade ago. Pocket Tactics said Balan Wonderworld is an otherworldly disaster: tedious to play, visually repellent, and – at least on Switch – stomach-churning to control”. The game simply had odd costume swapping mechanics, extremely simplistic controls, and a story that was rather incoherent.

eFootball 2022

This game is good at one thing, and that’s being the worst game of 2021. Reaching the title of Steam’s worst reviewed game at one point. A pro soccer franchise that is over 20 years old, even considered to be the best in it’s genre at some stages. eFootball was not the original name of the game series, with a new name and other changes the game opted to become free to play too!

eFootball 2022 had a launch that could be considered to be quite miserable. Players stated the graphics were atrocious, a tremendous lack of content and most importantly a slow paced incomprehensible gameplay that stripped away the core strengths of the PES series! And even with possible updates Screen Rant added “the question over eFootball 2022’s worth will still need to be repeatedly asked.”

Though this is not a cross generation game, what this game brings in aesthetic is simply not possible on older hardware!
